At Jumbo Fish Farm, we’re convinced that knowledge and environmentally responsible practices may help the aquaculture industry advance. We are dedicated to distributing this wealth of knowledge to our agricultural partners since, more than just fish farmers, we are stewards of aquaculture knowledge.
Recently, we had the honor of welcoming 63 enthusiastic farmers who share our desire for Kenya to have a strong and sustainable aquaculture industry. This event was more than just a gathering; it was an occasion of our progress and learning as a whole.
Our day started off with an educational training session where our intelligent professionals explored many aspects of fish farming. Without going into great depth, it’s important to keep in mind that the training covered a wide range of crucial subjects. Our participants were immersed in a world of aquaculture knowledge, learning everything from the complex field of raising quality fingerlings to the complex science of keeping spotless ponds.
Pond management was a key component of our training. The farmers gained knowledge on the finer points of pond design, location selection, and the careful attention needed to establish and maintain ideal pond conditions. These insights lay the groundwork for profitable and environmentally friendly fish farming methods.
Fish feeding is an exquisitely planned program, as our participants discovered. We talked about fish nutrition, the many types of feed available, and feeding procedures. Practical knowledge, such as grinding fish feed for smaller fish, was readily passed on.
Our participants learnt to identify the general causes of diseases in farmed fish, spot early warning indications of trouble, and, most importantly, apply preventive actions. In any type of business, diligent record-keeping is equivalent to a ship’s compass. Throughout the training, we stressed the significance of keeping accurate records. These records are more than just paperwork; they are useful tools for making educated decisions and managing resources.
However, aquaculture is more than just producing the best possible fish; it is also about properly marketing them. Our participants were taught the art of marketing, including identifying target markets and making successful connections within the business.
The training session was not the end of our day. We extended a warm invitation to our participants, providing them with an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse at our farm’s operations. The hatchery and grow-out portions, the engines that drive Jumbo’s success, were shown, offering our guests an immersive and lasting experience.
Our dedication goes beyond our ponds and products at Jumbo Fish Farm. We are committed to empowering local farmers, promoting growth in the aquaculture sector, and improving Kenya’s food security. Our farm is more than just a place where fish are raised; it is a driving force propelling the aquaculture community toward a brighter and more sustainable future.
