Val High School Students’ Adventure in the Grow-Out Section

Ever wondered what it takes to grow fish from tiny fingerlings to the succulent tilapia on your plate? Val High School students embarked on an immersive adventure at the Grow-Out Section of Jumbo Fish Farm, discovering the fascinating world of aquaculture up close.

The day began with students diving right into the action, participating in the meticulous process of harvesting table-size tilapia. With nets in hand and guided by our expert team, they learned how to catch the fish at just the right moment for market readiness. This wasn’t just about reeling in fish; it was a lesson in timing, care, and the balance required to ensure that the fish meet both quality and market standards.

Following the harvest, students delved into the critical task of sampling fish to monitor their health and growth. They were introduced to the science behind keeping fish in optimal conditions, discovering how data collection and regular checks play a crucial role in successful aquaculture. Each sample was a window into the health of the entire fish population, a reminder of the intricate balance between science and nature in fish farming.

Next, students got their hands dirty as they helped with pond construction and maintenance. Armed with tools, they learned about pond design, water management, and the importance of a well-maintained environment for fish growth. This hands-on activity demonstrated how careful planning and regular upkeep are essential for creating a sustainable aquaculture system.

The day concluded with students learning the art of installing hapa nets, a vital tool in aquaculture used for breeding and growing fish in controlled environments. This task offered them practical experience in managing fish populations and understanding the technical aspects of aquaculture.

Through these experiences, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the day-to-day operations of a modern fish farm. They saw firsthand how Jumbo Fish Farm balances efficiency with sustainability, supporting local economies and contributing to global food security. Their visit highlighted how innovative practices in aquaculture can drive positive change.
