Jumbo in a Jiff
At our state-of-the-art hatchery, we specialize in producing top-quality mono-sex tilapia fingerlings. These little fish are a big deal for farmers—they don’t breed unnecessarily in ponds and maintain the perfect Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) as they grow from fingerlings to table-size tilapia with the ideal weight.
The Journey Begins:
Our journey to quality fingerlings starts in the Grow-Out section, which boasts 42 ponds split into two areas: the nursery and the pre-growth section. The nursery is where tilapia and catfish brood, while the pre-growth area is where we raise the fingerlings until they’re ready for the table.
Key to Success:
Maintaining the Grow-Out is crucial for sustainable breeding and producing quality eggs. Here are a few of our best practices:
- Cleanliness: Keeping the area spotless.
- Water Quality: Regularly improving and monitoring pond water.
- Water Management: Controlling water loss in ponds.
- Liming and Fertilization: Properly managing pond conditions.
With these practices in place, we focus on feeding our brooders the right diet with an accurate FCR. Depending on the weather—tilapia love a cozy 28 degrees—the brooders breed for 14 to 21 days. Once breeding is complete, we harvest the eggs, which the females carry in their mouths. The eggs are then cleaned, sorted, and placed in hatching jars for about five days until they hatch into fry.
At Jumbo Fish Farm, we’re all about turning tiny fish into big profits—in a jiffy!
