Jumbo Fish Farm is delighted to announce that our team (Eugeine Wasuna, Virginia Kasyoka, and Joseph Obilo )has officially commenced the six-month Norec-supported Kenya - Norway Exchange Programme, a new milestone in our journey to build resilient and sustainable aquaculture systems.

Their stay began in Ringebu, where they were hosted by Simen Riffault Andresen , Managing Director of TAC Norway. The team spent their first days hiking through Venabygdsfjellet , a cultural immersion that perfectly captured the spirit of Norec. For our team, the hike was more than a welcome to Norway; it was a symbolic step into new terrains of knowledge, resilience, and collaboration.

After this grounding cultural experience, the exchange shifted into a week of hands-on learning with some of Norway?s most innovative aquaculture players:

At Svaberget Smolt, one of Sinkaberg AS?s advanced hatcheries, the team toured a Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) facility. They learned how technology is used to recycle nearly all water, maintain precise environmental conditions, and digitally monitor feed intake and oxygen levels in real time. It was a first-hand look at how Norway integrates sustainability and efficiency into modern aquaculture.

With Sterling Halibut, they observed the meticulous process of halibut roe harvesting. Sterling is renowned for raising halibut in slow, natural cycles and for managing every step of the value chain from broodstock to harvest. This integrated approach ensures quality, traceability, and environmental stewardship, offering valuable lessons for value-chain management back home.

At the SalMar Salmon Centre in R?rvik, the team explored interactive exhibitions that trace salmon?s journey from roe to plate. Combining history, science, and innovation, the centre showcases how salmon farming is not only an industry but also a cultural cornerstone in Norway.

Together, these experiences provided a comprehensive introduction to the Norwegian aquaculture ecosystem blending cultural exchange, cutting-edge technology, and sustainability practices. This is exactly what the Norec programme represents: knowledge shared across borders, mutual growth, and long-term impact.

We are proud of our team for embracing this opportunity with openness and curiosity. The insights they gain over the next six months will not only shape our work in Kenya but also strengthen the bridges between Norwegian and Kenyan aquaculture.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Norec, AquaFind AS, and Val Skoler for their partnership and support. The journey has just begun, and we look forward to sharing more milestones as the exchange unfolds.
