In 2008, Mama Loice started fish farming through Kenya’s Economic Stimulus Programme. Today, her farm is still helping her provide for her family, including supporting the education of her two grandchildren. Yet her story also reflects a challenge shared by many farmers: having the knowledge and commitment to farm does not always mean having reliable access to the inputs, records and capital needed to grow.

As farmer verification continues in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, through From Capacity to Capital ,a programme by The Aquaculture Consortium (TAC), African Guarantee Fund (AGF) and Equity Bank Limited designed to connect capacity building with access to appropriate finance ; Mama Loice highlighted one challenge affecting production: reliable access to quality fingerlings and fish feed. As TAC’s anchor enterprise in the programme, our field officers are supporting the baseline assessment and verification process, helping build a clearer picture of farmers’ production realities, business documentation, operational challenges and financing needs. The aim is to ensure that support and financing are grounded in the realities of the farmers they are intended to serve.
