You leave the boardroom, put on your gumboots and spend time on the farm.
That was the spirit behind the recent visit by a technical delegation from Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Technical Committee TC 017, led by Wycliffe Rachuonyo, to Jumbo Fish Farm. The visit forms part of the ongoing development of the Kenya Standard on the Welfare of Farmed Tilapia, a Code of Practice that will help shape the future of responsible aquaculture in Kenya.
Our technical team engaged the delegation across the hatchery, nursery, grow-out systems and day-to-day farm operations, sharing practical experience on fish welfare, farm management practices and innovation in aquaculture production.
What made the visit especially valuable is that the engagement went beyond observation. It opened up wider conversations around standards development, research, knowledge sharing and industry collaboration, all of which are essential to strengthening aquaculture systems in Kenya.
The future of the sector will be shaped through partnerships that bring regulators, researchers and industry players closer to the realities of production on the ground.
We sincerely appreciate the KEBS team for visiting Jumbo Fish Farm and for the open and insightful engagement. We look forward to continued collaboration in advancing fish welfare, better standards and a stronger aquaculture sector for Kenya and beyond.
